Frozen ≠ Recovered.
Binance says about $3 billion was frozen on-chain. That figure should not be confused with completed recovery or a final net loss.

A declined invitation became a statement of independence. The Kaspa community turned that spirit into a rallying cry: #BYENANCE.
On November 6, 2025, Yonatan Sompolinsky thanked Binance for including him in its Blockchain 100 list, then declined the Dubai invitation. He acknowledged the Kaspians who had rallied behind him. For supporters, the moment captured a bigger question: should open networks need the approval of an exchange?
By December, community posts were accusing Binance of overlooking Yonatan and fellow Kaspa contributor Michael Sutton at the awards ceremony. @ScapeSquad’s December 4 post called for users to delete their accounts and boycott the exchange. Its allegations of corruption and unfair treatment were the author’s criticism, rather than established findings.
The frustration extended beyond an awards stage. Supporters challenged exchange gatekeeping, listing practices, and a culture they believed rewarded speculation over useful decentralized technology. The response became a goodbye wave, a hashtag, and a stream of memes.
Under the #BYENANCE banner, community members urged crypto users to walk away from centralized control and take responsibility for their own assets. Account-deletion screenshots and cypherpunk memes gave that argument a public face.
The movement’s message: build permissionless networks, question the gatekeepers, and choose who holds your keys. What began around a Kaspa dispute became an invitation to the wider crypto community to rethink its dependence on centralized exchanges.

OCTOBER 10, 2025 / COMMUNITY PERSPECTIVE
For Binance’s critics, the October 2025 market crash became another reason to question the power centralized exchanges hold over crypto.

Across the BYENANCE conversation, supporters blamed centralized exchange culture for putting speculation ahead of the technology. The market turmoil sharpened their anger over leverage, trading losses, and the influence of exchange gatekeepers.
Community criticism focused on an exchange business model that earns from trading while customers bear market risk. Later posts from @byenance_ argued that retail users were being burned while projects such as Kaspa remained sidelined. These are the movement’s criticisms; they do not establish that Binance caused the October crash.
The movement connected that frustration to a broader demand: less dependence on centralized platforms and more attention to permissionless networks, self-custody, and personal responsibility. The goodbye wave became a way to make that position visible.
Read The Community CriticismMarket-wide causation and Binance-specific responsibility require separate evidence. This section presents the campaign’s perspective, not a finding that one exchange caused the crash.
Make your BYE count. Walk away from the casino culture. Choose control over your own keys.
Before closing your account: withdraw your assets, resolve open positions and orders, and download the records you need. Follow Binance’s current account-closure requirements in its official app or website.

ESTIMATED IMPACT REPORTED BY BINANCE
Binance reports unauthorized withdrawals and says an engineer’s compromised laptop may be involved. Its investigation is preliminary. The incident renews the argument over who controls assets held on an exchange.
Read Binance’s Incident UpdateBinance says about $3 billion was frozen on-chain. That figure should not be confused with completed recovery or a final net loss.
Binance says it will cover losses. A later company update reports more than $6.34 billion reserved for that purpose.
Company Reserve UpdateEarly figures circulated online differ from Binance’s newer estimate. Responsibility and the full mechanism remain under investigation.
CoinDesk CoverageOur take: crypto’s best pitch is open infrastructure. The casino aesthetic is getting old.
Explore KaspaAn exchange balance depends on a custodian. Self-custody puts key management in your hands, along with the responsibility to protect and back them up.
The Kaspa case is about permissionless infrastructure and proof-of-work. We’re here for technology people can use, beyond a trading screen.
Mock the corporate slogans. Question the custody model. People affected by a security incident deserve their money back, not a victory lap at their expense.
Wallets, software, bridges, and users can still be compromised. A meme is no substitute for understanding what you’re signing.
